Carthew - Alderson Trail

The Carthew-Alderson Trail is considered to be one of the most visually rewarding hikes in the Waterton area.  It is a 19 km (11.8 mile) trek from the shores of Cameron Lake to the windblown pass known as Carthew Summit (2377 m/7800 ft).

From this majestic vista overlooking Glacier National Park in Montana, you will descend to Carthew Lakes and down further still to the cliff-surrounded Alderson Lake.  A peaceful forest walk back to the Waterton Village ends the day with a wonderful vantage point of Cameron Falls.

A full day adventure, the Carthew- Alderson Trail is moderately difficult and can take up to 8 hours to experience - but it is well worth the effort.  Tamarack Outdoor Outfitters in the Village offers a daily shuttle to Cameron Lake to make this one-way hike both convenient and efficient.

Best Waterton Hike! - D. Parbery
We think this is the best hike in the park! We have done it twice (2006 straight through and in 2008 overnighting at Alderson Lake). Not much in the way of wildlife seen either time, but the wild flow

Amazing! - A. Blackburn
I did this hike when I was younger, but it's amazing. the vistas, the cascade lakes. I loved all of it. It's breathtaking and awe inspiring. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to do this hike.
